ART SENIORS TO DISPLAY WORKS

Senior shows for students majoring in studio art and art education opened last week and are still on display until April Friday. The shows will be on display in the Art Center Galleries.

The galleries are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Monday to Friday and from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday.  Admission is free and open to the public.

RAD TO HOST TWO SESSIONS

The UCM R.A.D. Self Defense program, sponsored by the department of public safety, will be hosting a keychain defense program is slated for Wednesday and an aerosol defense is planned for Thursday.  Both courses are from 6-10 p.m., and participants must attend all three nights to complete the training.

THEATER & DANCE, MUSIC BRINGING DUKE ELLINGTON TO UCM

UCM’s Theater and Dance program is teaming up with both UCM Choirs and the UCM Jazz Ensemble to present Duke Ellington’s Sacred Concert, April 18-20 at 7:30 p.m. and on April 21 at 2 p.m.

All showings will take place in the Highlander Theater. Tickets are free with a UCM ID. For tickets, go to ucmboxoffice.universitytickets.com.

NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK APRIL 22-25

MO Volunteers is hosting several events during National Volunteer Week from April 22-25.  Events during the week include the Horticulture Club Plant Sale on April 22 from 4-6 p.m. on Broad Street, the Sustainability Mall on April 23 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Union Atrium, Squeeze out the Stress on April 24 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. outside the Student Union, and the campus cleanup on April 25 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in various places around campus.

FOUNDERS DAY APRIL 24

The UCM Founders Day Birthday Bash is April 24 from 11a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at UCM’s Warrensburg campus and on April 25 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Lee’s Summit campus. Various activities will be present at both events including appearances from Dr. Best and Mo the Mule, various food items including cake and other snacks, music from UCM Radio-The Beat and UCM Bands, and more.

Also as part of the week-long celebration, MO’s Activity Council is hosting its annual Petting Zoo on April 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The annual Mule Fest is April 26 from 3-7 pm. Both events will be at Selmo Park.

NEW MUSIC ON DISPLAY SUNDAY, APRIL 28

The UCM Division of Music is hosting New Music Sunday, which encompasses three separate concerts on Sunday, April 28 at noon, 3 p.m., and 7 p.m., all in Hart Recital Hall. All three concerts will display and showcase various new pieces created by UCM students this past semester.  The noon concert will showcase music technology students’ music, the 3 p.m. concert will showcase various individuals and groups who create their music with laptops and electronics, and the 7 p.m. concert will showcase new pieces created under the direction of Dr. Travis Garrison. All three shows are free to attend.

TEXTBOOK RETURN COMING UP

Students who wish to return their rental textbooks or exchange their paid textbooks for cash can begin doing so starting April 29 through May 3 at the UCM Bookstore.  The bookstore is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day.

FINAL EXAMS APRIL 29-MAY 3

The end of the semester is nearly here. The last day of the Spring 2024 semester is Friday April 26. Finals week is April 29 to May 3. Click here find out when classes will meet for finals.

UCM ATHLETICS CALENDAR AND UPDATE

MULES WIN AT QUINCY

No. 2 Mules Baseball (37-5, 24-3) posted a 15-6 win over Quincy University in a non-conference game Wednesday at QU Stadium in Quincy, Ill..

Josh Patrick went 2-for-5 with a pair of two-run home runs and drove in four runs, while Carter Young was 2-for-6 with a homer and two RBI, Chase Wilcox was 2-for-3 a home run and a pair of runs driven in, Adamo Stornello was 2-for-3 with his first home run of 2024, and Chase Heath was 1-for-1 with a two-run, pinch-hit home run.

The Mules head to Claremore, Okla. to take on Rogers State in a three-game series Friday through Sunday.  Friday’s contest is at 3 p.m., Saturday is at 2 p.m., and Sunday is at 1 p.m.

JENNIES DROP TWO TO MARYVILLE

Jennies softball (21-24, 10-12) dropped both games of a doubleheader with the Maryville Saints (20-25, 10-10 GLVC), 17-10 and 4-2, Wednesday at Jennies Field at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg.

The Jens are off the rest of this week.  They return to the diamond Friday, April 26, to host Missouri Western (25-15, 9-9 MIAA) for Military Appreciation Night. First pitch of game one is at 3 p.m.

MULES WIN FIREKEEPER OPEN

Central Missouri Mules Golf  won the Firekeeper Open Tuesday, April 9 at Firekeeper Golf Course in Mayetta, Kan.  It was UCM’s first win of the sweason. The Mules posted a 54-hole team score of 845 (-19), winning the tournament by four strokes over Missouri Southern.

The Mules were led by redshirt junior Alex Gentry, who earned the individual title with a 54-hole total of 203 (-13), which tied the UCM school record low 54-hole total.  For his effort, Gentry was named MIAA Men’s Golfer of the Week.

Sophomore Jack Hope tied for fourth at 4-under par (212).

The Mules are in the MIAA Men’s Golf Championship Monday through Wednesday at Shoal Creek Golf Club in Kansas City.

JENNIES TAKE THIRD IN ARKANSAS

No. 10 Central Missouri Jennies Golf took home third place after the final round of the Arkansas Tech Spring Preview Tuesday, April 9. The Jennies posted a 54-hole team score of 909 (+45).

The Jennies were led by redshirt senior Hayley Jones, who finished third at 5-over par (221).

The Jennies compete in the MIAA Women’s Golf Championships Monday through Wednesday, April 22-24 at Silo Ridge Golf Club in Bolivar, Mo.

TRACK & FIELD ATHLETES POST WINS

University of Central Missouri Mules and Jennies

saw three school records fall at the annual UCM Outdoor Mule Relays Friday at Walton Stadium/Kennedy Field.

The Mules and Jennies 4x100m relays both set school records while Brooklynn Holtman established a new standard in the women’s 400m dash.

The Jennies 4x100m relay of Anayla Waters, Holtman, Kylee Terry and Lenetta Lee posted a provisional and school record time of 46.05 to finish first.

After setting a school record last week, the Mules 4x100m relay team of Ariel Kerr, Brockton McLaughlin, Rawley Chard and Antonio Lay improved the mark with a winning time of 39.96. That time is the top time in NCAA-II this season.

The Mules and Jennies also won the 4x400m relays.  The Jennies team of Lee, Kayla Goodwin, Waters and Holtman won in 3 minutes, 51.32 seconds, while the Mules team of Trey Miller, McLaughlin, Chard and Michael James ran a 3:16.18 to finish first.

Holtman and Waters finished first and third in the women’s 400m dash. Holtman set the Jennies’ record time of 54.15, an NCAA-II provisional time. Waters was third in 57.03.

UCM also had several other top finishes on the track.  Kerr won the men’s 100m dash in 10.72, Lay won the men’s 200m dash with a provisional time of 20.92, and Brayden Blackman finished first in the men’s 400m hurdles in 53.89.

Rawley Chard ran a personal-best 48.42 to finish second in the men’s 400m dash, Brian Mitei was runner-up in the men’s 800m run in 1:53.19, and Katie Bean ran 4:43.91 to place second in the women’s 1,500m run. Bean also finished third in the 800m run in 2:19.06 while Luke Engel was third in the men’s 10,000m in 31:42.32.

In field events, Evans Yamoah won the men’s high jump with a provisional mark of 2.17m (7-01.50).  Aiden Smith won the men’s javelin with a provisional mark of 60.20m (197-6). That mark is seventh best in school history. Michael Waldron was runner-up with a provisional 58.89m (193-3).

The Mules also went 2-3 in the men’s pole vault. Pierson Carlisle was runner-up with a mark of 4.72m (15-5.75) and Miller was third at 4.42m (14-6.00 – first attempt)

The Jennies went 1-2-3 in the women’s triple jump.  Goodwin won with a provisional mark of 12.33m (40-05.50), Maggie Klover was second with a provisional 12.08m (39-07.75), and Simone Green third with a mark of 11.77m (38-07.50).  Ally Fox was runner-up in the javelin with a mark of 42.59m (139-9).

UCM track & field returns to action Saturday at the Pittsburg State Tune Up meet in Pittsburg, Kan.
