Central Missouri began its next drive from the ThunderWolves’ 40-yard line.

CSU Pueblo was able to force a three-and-out, and the Mules’ Brody Graber punted the ball away. A touchback gave the ThunderWolves the ball on their own 20-yard line. Two plays later, quarterback Navi Bruzon found Dedrek Taylor-Akins for a 76-yard touchdown. Jackson Smith’s good extra point tied the game at 7-7, which is where the score remained through the end of the first quarter.

The next score came with 9:42 left in the first half when UCM was sacked in the end zone for a 6-yard loss, resulting in a safety that gave the ThunderWolves a 9-7 lead.

On the ensuing drive, the ThunderWolves capitalized. A six-play drive that took two minutes and 37 seconds was capped by a 27-yard touchdown pass from Bruzon to Taylor-Akins. Smith’s extra point made it 16-7.

That would not be the final score of the first half. Peacock of the Mules converted a 20-yard field goal attempt with 1:09 left in the first half to make it 16-10, which was the score at halftime.

In the third quarter, the ThunderWolves found their rhythm. A 40-yard touchdown pass from Bruzon to Taylor-Akins and a 26-yard touchdown pass from Bruzon to Marcellus Honeycutt Jr. headlined the third quarter. Both of Smith’s extra point attempts were good.

The only score from the Mules in the third quarter came from a safety as Bruzon was flagged for intentional grounding in the end zone. At the end of the third quarter, the score was 30-12 in favor of the ThunderWolves.

Central Missouri had some life in the fourth quarter. With 10:19 remaining, Jordan Pachot found Marlon Lindsey for a 25-yard touchdown to make it 30-18. The Mules went for the two-point conversion, which failed.

On the next drive, a six-play drive was capped by a 48-yard touchdown run from Russell Patton with 6:33 to go. The extra point made it 37-18.

The Mules’ next offensive play resulted in a pick-six by Carter Daniels. The subsequent extra point made it 44-18.

Central Missouri bounced back on its next drive, which resulted in a 5-yard touchdown run from Brown. Peacock converted the extra point to make it 44-25 with 2:42 to play.

An ensuing onside kick from Peacock was recovered by Central Missouri, but no more scoring would result, and the ThunderWolves took it 44-25.

For the Mules, Pachot was 24-for-46 passing for 318 yards and a touchdown. He threw two interceptions and was sacked five times. Brown led all rushers with 18 carries for 168 yards and two touchdowns. Lindsey led the Mules’ receivers with six receptions and a touchdown.

Defensively, Williams and Abe Hoskins III each had a sack, and Steven Richardson recorded an interception to lead Central Missouri.

CSU Pueblo was led by quarterback Bruzon. He was 18-for-29 with 321 yards, four touchdowns and one interception. He was sacked four times. Patton led CSU Pueblo in rushing with 14 carries for 91 yards and a touchdown. Taylor-Akins led the ThunderWolves’ receiving with nine receptions for 200 yards and three touchdowns.

On the other side of the ball, the ThunderWolves recorded five sacks for 48 yards, three forced fumbles and two interceptions on the night.

Score by quarter

1st

2nd

3rd

4th

Final

Mules

7

3

2

13

25

ThunderWolves

7

9

14

14

44

UP NEXT: Central Missouri hosts Missouri Western (0-1, 0-0 MIAA) on Thursday, Sept. 3, for Get the Red Out Night.
