Presentation on bear populations, prairie management highlight CEA meeting

January 8, 2019 @ 5:30 pm

A program focusing on Missouri bear populations and the management of grasslands and other wildlife habitat in the state will be featured at an upcoming meeting of the Johnson County Citizens for Environmental Action.

The meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, in the David Curtis Room at the Warrensburg Community Center, 445 E. Gay St.

The guest speaker will be Austin Worth, private land specialist for the Missouri Department of Conservation, based out of Warrensburg. Worth has worked for the Conservation Department for nearly five years, participating in seven different function areas, including serving as the state’s bear biologist assistant, wildlife health program technician, fisheries research assistant and patch burn grazing technician, according to a news release.

Worth’s presentation on bear populations and prairie management is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

The CEA meeting agenda includes updates on development plans for the Turkeyfoot Prairie near West Park, the status of the state’s acceptance of the Rock Island rail line from Windsor to Beaufort for conversion to a hiking and biking trail, plans for CEA’s Earth Day 2019 on April 27, possible participation in UCM’s volunteer day program, and suggested projects for the organization.
