Jennies’ soccer unanimous number one in MIAA preseason soccer poll

(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) – The defending MIAA champion Jennies’ soccer team was unanimously picked to finish on top of the MIAA in the 2012 Preseason Coaches’ Poll released Thursday morning by the league office. The Jens received all 12 possible first-place votes cast by the league coaches and garnered 144 points.
UCM finished the 2011 season as MIAA regular season and postseason tournament champions, compiling a perfect 8-0-0 record in conference play and an impressive 19-2-0 overall record. The MIAA regular season crown was the fourth title for the Jens in the past five seasons. Central Missouri advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament for the second straight season.
The Jennies return nine of their 11 starters from last year’s championship team, including six All-MIAA first team selections.
MIAA newcomer Central Oklahoma was picked second, compiling 130 points, followed by Truman State with 125 points.
The Bearcats of Northwest Missouri were fourth with 96 points while Missouri Southern was fifth with 94 points, rounding out the top five. The rest of the poll went Northeastern State (77 points), Fort Hays State (74 points), Southwest Baptist (58 points), Nebraska-Kearney (57 points), Lindenwood (50 points), Emporia State (46 points), Washburn (37 points) and Missouri Western (26 points).
The Jennies open the 2012 season at home Aug. 31 with a regional showdown against Winona State (Minnesota) at 7 p.m. at the South Recreation Complex.
