Jerome “Jerry” Evans

Jerome “Jerry” Evans of Warrensburg, died Monday, Jan. 21, at home with his family by his side.

A visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, at First Christian Church of Warrensburg. Memorial services will follow at 11 a.m. at the church with Pastor Jerry Basye officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the First Christian Church Building Fund and can be left in care of Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home.

He was born May 24, 1934 to his parents Warren and Wilma (Lily) Evans in Cairo, Missouri. He graduated from Meadville High School and later from Northeast Missouri State/Truman State with a degree in Secondary Education. After graduation he married his high school sweetheart, Phyllis Sallee. While serving three years in the Army, he was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany. After completing his service, he earned a Masters and Specialist Degrees in Education from the University of Missouri. Jerry served over 38 years in education as a teacher, coach, principal, and superintendent. He finished his career as a State Supervisor of Education.

Together, Jerry and Phyllis raised three daughters, Brenda, Teresa, and Carla. He took great pride and joy in traveling and camping with his family in the lower 48 states. He enjoyed following baseball, basketball, and football. Later he continued his passion to be with his family by attending his grandkids’ activities. After retiring, he and Phyllis enjoyed traveling across the United States and Europe. Jerry and Phyllis celebrated 63 years of marriage filled with wonderful memories.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Phyllis; three daughters, Brenda (Darrel) Frolin, Teresa Hays and Carla (Cesar) Solano; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. His brother, Travis Evans, also survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Monty Hays; and a sister-in-law, Beverly Evans.
