(WARRENSBURG, Mo.)–The Warrensburg Public Works Street Department has received bids for the 2014 Street Maintenance Program. This year’s program includes application of a 2” asphalt overlay on 7 streets in the city.

The successful bid for these projects was received from Tandem Paving of Blue Springs in the amount of $242,573. Work should commence in July and be completed within a week’s duration. The streets included in this asphalt overlay are Furmeson St. from Maguire to College, Sunset Drive from Devasher to Shady Lane, W Gay St. from Washington to Warren, Cooper Blvd. from Maguire to 400 east of Simpson, E Gay St. from Mitchell to Knoll Drive, Tyler St. from Mitchell to Clark and E Market from Ridgeview east 1,233.

Bids have also been received for the Curb and Sidewalk Program which involves the installation or replacement of sidewalk, curb, and placement of ADA accessibility ramps in various locations. Richter Excavating & Plumbing submitted the lowest bid of $48,479 and work is expected to begin in late May.

A project of primary importance to the community, which will be beginning in May, entails the construction of a dedicated right-hand turn lane at the intersection of Maguire and Young Streets. This improvement is being implemented to reduce the traffic congestion and back-ups occurring related to east bound Young Street traffic turning south on Maguire. The cost of the project is being shared between the City and the Central Missouri Credit Union which is currently under construction.

Once the work commences, there will be limited access to Young Street between College Street and Maguire Street. Lane reductions will be encountered by motorists on both Young Street and Maguire Street. Business access should be maintained at all times in the area but some minor delays may be required due to public safety.

The contractor plans closure of some sections of the streets during daytime work hours but will restore as much of the street access as possible during the overnight hours. Motorists and pedestrians are asked to exercise caution in the area while the improvements are under construction.
