(WARRENSBURG, Mo.)—Robert Edward “Bob” Goetz Sr.,  92, of Warrensburg, died Friday, Aug. 10, at the Missouri State Veterans Home in Warrensburg.

Bob was born March 14, 1920, in Smithton, Mo., the son of Edward William and Edna Lugreta (Bohling) Goetz. He did his undergraduate work at Central Missouri State Teachers College, and then received his master’s degree at Colorado State College of Education, and his doctorate in education from the University of Missouri.

He served during World War II between February 1943 and December 1945 in the Army Air Corps as a Navigator / Instructor for B-17s and B-29s. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Warrensburg, where he served as Trustee, Sunday School teacher, and as a member of the Chancel Choir for 52 years.

He was also a member of the American Legion and Boy Scouts of America Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He taught at Central Missouri State College in the department of Applied Sciences and Technology for 38 years and retired as assistant dean. He was instrumental in the development of the Graphic Arts department. He also served as president of the American Industrials Arts Association and the Ohio Industrial Arts Association. He was a member of the Mississippi Valley Industrial Arts conference.

Bob is survived by his wife Rickey Irene (Monsees); three sons, Robert E. Goetz Jr. and wife Sharon of St. Louis, Mo., David E. Goetz and wife Glenda of Warrensburg, and Donald K. Goetz and wife Tami of Westminster, Colo.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and step-mother, Edna (Sewell) Goetz.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, Aug. 14, at 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Warrensburg with Rev. Louie Lowe officiating. Pallbearers will be Steve Goetz, Chad Goetz, Josh Goetz, Mitch Axsom, Matt Axsom and Johnny Barnett. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Brame, John Horine, Perry McCandless, George Sample, Jackson Short, Hal Sappington and Charles Keseman.

Burial will be in the cemetery in Smithton, Mo.

The family will receive friends, Monday, Aug. 13, from 6-8 p.m. at Sweeney-Phillips and Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the First United Methodist Church building fund or the Robert Edward Goetz Scholarship Fund at UCM. Memorials may be left in care of the funeral home.
