Jennies open postseason against Lindenwood

 Jennies softball concluded their regular season with two doubleheaders over the weekend. The Jens would go 3-1 in those games with back to back 9-0 wins over Lincoln and a split with Lindenwood.

The Jens finished the season 30-20 with a 19-7 record in conference and a 13-1 home record. Since the Jennies 6-12 start to the season, they’ve gone 24-8 down the stretch.

Leftfielder Taylor Dames collected six hits and four RBI in the last four games. Dames finished her first season with the Jennies batting .320 with 19 RBI.

The Jennies will begin their postseason campaign with the MIAA Tournament beginning Thursday at the USA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. A rematch with Lindenwood will be the first test of the tournament for the Jennies. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. on the Integris Field.

Track and field hosts Mules Relays

The Mules and Jennies track and field teams hosted the first outdoor edition of the Mules Relays since 2015 over the weekend at Walton Stadium/Kennedy Field.

Four Mules throwers earned provisional qualifying marks in the hammer throw and took four of the top five spots. Jace Kaleikau took first, Nathan Liby finished second, Nathan Cummings took fourth and John Berry rounded out the top five.

Jesse Miller earned qualifying marks in the high jump, taking first with a jump of 7-.05 tying for the fifth highest in UCM history and only two inches short of the highest in school history.

Noah Larsen led the Mules in the distance department, taking first in the 800 meter in 1 minute and 52 seconds. His performance earned him a provisional qualifying mark.

Tyler Hughes and Ian Frazier finished within five seconds of each other in the 10K to take second and third place respectively.

The Jennies finished first in the 4×100 relay. The team consisting of Alliah McClendon, Emily Thole, Destiney Nash and Kymmalett Ross completed the race in 46.86 seconds for the second-best time in UCM history.

The Mules and Jennies will be sending athletes to three different competitions in the final weekend of the season prior to the MIAA Championships. The Drake Relays will kick off April 25 and will go until April 28 in Des Moines, Iowa. The Williams/Laptad Open will be a one day event Friday, scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on the campus of Missouri Southern State University. Last is the Simpson Invitational which is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Friday, in Indianola, Iowa.

Jennies finish fifth in conference championship

Jennies golf got their postseason underway competing in the MIAA Championship at Swope Memorial Golf Course in Kansas City, Missouri.

The Jens sat in sixth place at the end of day two but shot 322, a 20-stroke improvement from day one. They carried that momentum into day three shooting 321 to finish fifth place.

Junior Elizabeth Leath was the top individual performer and led the Jens two of the three rounds. Leath finished +25, 241 to finish tied for 10th.

Senior Jordan Rehkow finished +30, 246 and placed 17th overall. Rehkow and Leath finished with five birdies each, tied for third most in the field.

The Jennies will learn their postseason fate on Monday afternoon when the NCAA releases the Central Region selections at 2 p.m. on NCAA.com.

Mules recover to take second at MIAA Championship

After finishing day one in eighth place, Mules golf got back on track finishing in second place at the MIAA Championship at Sycamore Ridge Golf Course in Olathe, Kansas.

The Mules improved on their shaky start, knocking 18 strokes off their day one score to move into second place at the end of day two. Despite another good round on day three, the Mules were unable to catch eventual champions Lindenwood. The Lions shot the best round as a team of the whole tournament with a 277 on day two.

Senior Shayne Allan was the top finisher for the Mules at sixth place. Allan finished +3, 219 with his best round coming on day two where he shot two under par.

Junior John Bonaobra finished tied for 12th with a final line of +4, 220.

Freshman Matt Hoemann rounded out the top 20 with a final line of +6, 220. Like Allan, Hoemann had his best round on day two where he shot -4, 68.

The Mules are ranked 26th in the nation in the latest polls. Next up for the Mules is the NCAA Super Regional May 7-9, at Findlay Country Club in Findlay, Ohio.
