UCM to host 9-11 observance

(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) – The public is invited to a remembrance ceremony honoring those who lost their lives in the 9-11 tragedy.

The event is scheduled for noon Tuesday, Sept. 11 at the University of Central Missouri quadrangle. The program is coordinated by the Office of Military and Veteran Services and a faculty member from the safety science program in the School of Environmental, Physical and Applied Sciences.

The ceremony will include a welcome from UCM President Charles Ambrose and keynote remarks from Larry Kay, executive director of the Missouri Veterans Commission. He is also the father of UCM freshman music major, Anna Kay, who will sing the National Anthem.

Other participants include the university’s Army ROTC Color Guard, faculty and students from the UCM Department of Music, members of the Collegiate Firefighters Association, as well as local first responders. This will include firefighting units, law enforcement and ambulance service personnel from Warrensburg, Johnson County, and Whiteman Air Force Base.
