SENIORS TO DISPLAY ART NOV. 29-DEC. 9

The studio Art and art education senior shows will be open at the UCM Art Gallery from Wednesday, Nov. 29 to Saturday, Dec. 9. The art gallery will be open from 8 to 5 a.m. all days. 

 

ADP ACCEPTING GRANT APPLICATIONS

The American Democracy Project is accepting grant applications from interested faculty, staff, and students. Applications supporting new activities and programs will be prioritized. To be considered for funding for the 2023-24 academic year, proposals must be submitted by Nov. 3 to adp@ucmo.edu.

According to the ADP website, “The grant program is intended to create opportunities for intellectual and experiential understanding of civic engagement for students enrolled at UCM. The project focuses on the development of informed graduates who are committed to lives of engagement as citizens in our democracy.”

FAFSA AVAILABLE IN DECEMBER

The United States Department of Education has announced that the 2024-25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid will be available in December 2023.  A specific date has not been announced.

Students may visit the FAFSA application online, and when the 2024-25 date is announced students may apply.  Students (and their parents, if applicable) may apply for the FSA ID now. They and their parents will have to provide consent to allow tax information to be added to the FAFSA.

UCM ATHLETICS CALENDAR AND UPDATE

JENNIES CONTINUE ROLL AT NEWMAN

No. 3 Jennies Basketball (7-0, 2-0) rolled past Newman University, 87-51, in an MIAA game Saturday afternoon at Fugate Gymnasium in Wichita, Kan.

Brooke Littrell scored 18 points on 4-of-9 shooting and a perfect 10-for-10 performance at the free-throw line to lead four Jennies in double figures. Olivia Nelson added 12 points while Graycen Holden and Ashley Tull each contributed 10. Littrell and Tull each added seven rebounds.

The Jennies continue MIAA play Saturday at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Mo.

MULES BASKETBALL DROP MIAA CONTEST AT NEWMAN

Central Missouri Mules Basketball (4-2, 0-2) fell in a buzzer beater to the Newman Jets (4-3, 1-1) 59-58 Saturday at Fugate Gymnasium in Wichita, Kan.

The Mules were clinging to a two-point lead with four seconds left, when Newman’s Kaeson Fisher-Brown connected from three at the buzzer to give the Jets the win.

Freshman Tim Jordan Jr. led Central Missouri with 17 points and nine rebounds. KJ Vasser added 12 points.

UCM returns to the court on Saturday against the Lincoln Blue Tigers.  Tip-off is at 3 p.m. from Jason Gymnasium in Jefferson City, Mo.

 

ELEVEN MULES PLACE AT DRURY OPEN

Mules Wrestling saw 11 individuals place at the Drury Open Saturday in Springfield, Mo. Trent Strong and Tommy Frezza led the Mules, winning both of their brackets.  Strong went 5-0 in the heavyweight bracket and Frezza went 4-0 the 133-pound bracket.

Landen Davis claimed third place with four victories by fall at 133. At 141 pounds, Jack Lage earned runner-up honors, and Kaden Stanley was fourth.

Conner Johnston was second at 157, John Ridle claimed runner-up honors at 165 pounds and Anthony Erickson was third.

Elijah Lewis (174), Damon Ashworth (184), and Dorian Walters (197) all finished fifth.

The Mules return to the mat Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 16-17 in the Midwest Classic at the University of Indianapolis.

 

TRACK & FIELD OPENS AT DOANE

The UCM Mules and Jennies track & field teams opened the 2023-2024 season at the Happy Holidays Multi-Events Meet Sunday at Doane University.

For the Jennies, Kayla Goodwin won the pentathlon and posted an NCAA-II Indoor Provisional mark of 3,777 points. She won the shot put with a mark of 10.82m (35-6), finished second in the 60m hurdles (8.98), long jump (5.64m/18-6) and 800m run (2:25.97), and finished third in the high jump (1.65m/5-5) on the way to her victory.

Maggie Klover placed fourth for the Jennies with 3,068 points while freshman Kristen Jones was fifth with 3,027 points.

For the Mules, freshman Jesus Flores placed fourth in the indoor heptathlon with 3,995 points. Flores won the high jump (1.90m/6-02.75). Redshirt freshman Evan Gosnell finished sixth with 3,540 points. He won both the 60m dash (7.24) and high jump (1.90m/6-02.75).

The Mules and Jennies return to action Friday and Saturday at the Pittsburg State Crimson & Gold Invitational in Pittsburg, Kan.
