UCM President’s Gala

April 7, 2015 @ 7:30 pm

The UCM President’s Gala is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, in Hendricks Hall.

A new group, The New Technologies Ensemble, was added this year. The students of the New Technologies Ensemble will perform on various digital controllers. Mike Sekelsky, music professor and associate Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences, will be featured with the ensemble on digital drum set. The Concert Choir will perform a piece that follows the varying stages of fall and winter with their performance of Morten Lauridsen’s “Mid-Winter Songs.”

UCM’s Symphony Orchestra will present music that represents the transformation of written word into music with “Montagues and Capulets,” from Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet Suite and two movements from “The Firebird Suite,” by Igor Stravinsky.

Jazz Ensemble I transitions from dance band to modern jazz with their performances of “Ko-Ko,” an Edward Kennedy arrangement of a chart by Duke Ellington, and a more modern jazz composition titled “Green Piece,” by Maria Schneider.

The concert will come to a close with the university’s Wind Ensemble performing “Elegy for Miles Davis,” from Richard Rodney Bennett’s Concerto for Trumpet & Wind Orchestra, featuring Dr. Alan Wenger, soloist.

Tickets may be purchased online at ucmpas.com or at the door. Adults are $7, K-12 are free with a ticket. UCM Students are free with student ID.

The event is sponsored by the UCM Department of Music, the Performing Arts Series and the College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences.
