Warrensburg Schools Foundation announces 14 scholarship recipients

(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) — The Warrensburg Schools Foundation awarded 14 student scholarships Friday, May 13.

Five new scholarships were introduced and awarded to students. The Younger Family Academic Scholarship for $500 was awarded to Brett Ballard. This scholarship is offered by the Younger Family to allow a student from Warrensburg High School to continue their education in applied science, technology, engineering, or mathematics at a four-year college or university.

The Younger Family Career and Technical Education Scholarship for $500 was awarded to Bear Bissen. This scholarship is offered by the Younger Family to assist a student who took career and technical classes to continue their education in applied science, technology, engineering, or mathematics at a four-year college or university.

This Jacob Shaffer Scholarship was awarded to four students for $250 each: Thomas Hitchcock, Tyler Long, Micheal Nimmer and Bear Bissen. The scholarship honors WHS student Jacob Shaffer by his family. This scholarship is available to WHS students who have participated on swim team or WHS Model UN team.

The Warrensburg Lion’s Club Academic Scholarship for $500 was awarded to Kathryn Smith. This scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate a commitment to his or her community and participation and or leadership in community service events.

The Warrensburg Lion’s Club Career and Technical Education Scholarship for $500 was awarded to Marissa Crabtree. This scholarship is awarded to a student who demonstrates a commitment to his or her community, and shows participation and or leadership in community service events, who plans on attending a technical school, trade school, a two-year or four-year college.

The Russell and Louise Elsberry Education Scholarship for $2,000 was awarded to Brett Ballard. This scholarship was created by the Elsberry family to help a student going into the field of education. Mr. Elsberry was the Warrensburg High School principal from 1958-1976 and Mrs. Elsberry taught at Ridge View Elementary School.

The Warrensburg Schools Foundation Scholarship for $1,000 was awarded to Kathryn Smith. This scholarship was created by the board of directors of the Warrensburg Schools Foundation. It is awarded to a student seeking to further their education at a two- or four-year college.

The Dr. Bruce Achauer Scholarship for $500 was awarded to Gunny Nappe. This scholarship, created in memory of Warrensburg High School alumnus Dr. Bruce Achauer, recognizes a WHS football player who demonstrates leadership, a positive outlook, hard work and is an inspiration to others.

The Lynn R. Solomon Scholarship for $500 was awarded to Janai Casey. This scholarship was created to honor longtime Warrensburg R-6 administrator Lynn Solomon. It is awarded to a WHS student who shows leadership, works hard, has at least a 2.0 GPA, and plans to be an education major and a teacher following college graduation.

The Russ Lotspeich Memorial Scholarship for $500 was awarded to Jodi Pedersen. This scholarship is awarded to a WHS athlete who shows leadership, has a positive outlook, works hard and inspires others, has at least a 2.0 GPA, is a dedicated athlete who motivates others and leads by example.

The Angela Cocke Memorial Scholarship of $500 was awarded to Kathryn Schumaker. The recipient should be a student with at least a 3.0 GPA that has declared a major in English, creative writing, and/or technical writing and is working toward a degree in the field at a four-year college/university or has served on the WHS yearbook and or newspaper staff.
