Police identify victim’s name in fatal shooting

(WARRENSBURG, Mo., digitalBURG) – Three days after being fatally shot by police in a raid on his home, police released the name of the victim Sunday morning.

Beau Appleton, 57, was killed Thursday evening by a member of the Warrensburg Police Department’s Special Emergency Operations Team.

Investigators had a warrant to search the home at 406 Ninth Street Terrace and seized an unspecified amount of narcotics, narcotics paraphernalia and several firearms, according to a news release.  The incident happened around 10:50 p.m. Thursday.

Appleton apparently fired at the SERT team with a shotgun as they entered the residence. According to police, one officer returned fire, killing the suspect.

Police have not released information specifying whether any officers were hit by the shotgun fire. The type of drugs and guns seized were also not released.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating the shooting at the request of the Police Department.
