Burrell Dean Corson

Burrell Dean Corson, 85, of Leeton, Missouri, died Tuesday, Nov. 21, at home.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, at Pleasant Bethel Baptist Church, 406 SE 521 Road. Interment with military honors will follow the service in Warrensburg Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Zachary Knight, Jake Corson, Clint Corson, Sean DesCombes, David Anderson, Chris Markley and Jason Atchison. Honorary pallbearers will be his great-grandchildren, and Denise DesCombes, DeAnna Anderson, Amber Atchison, Shawna Markley, Shannon Knight, Jenny Corson and his beloved nephew, Michael Corson.

Family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24, at Sweeney-Phillips and Holdren Funeral Home.

Burrell was born on the family farm in Leeton on Aug. 1, 1932, the son of Ernest and Myrl (Howe) Corson. During his childhood, he and his family lived in Texas where his father worked, and it was in Texas that Burrell was baptized as a Christian at the age of 8. He graduated from Leeton High School in the class of 1950.

He married Sarah Jane Hunter on Nov. 26, 1952. Less than two weeks later, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served nearly two years in the Korean War. Upon honorable discharge on Oct. 27, 1954, he returned home to Leeton. He and his brother, Phillip, began a carpentry business called Corson Brothers Construction. Burrell also did crop and cattle farming. He was a member of the Pleasant Bethel Baptist Church and the American Legion Post 131.

Burrell’s true love in life was his family. He and his wife, Sarah, were blessed with three children, seven grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. He cherished spending every moment with them. He was well-known for the interesting stories he told of his life.

Burrell is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Sarah, of the home; children, Connie Knight, of Warrensburg; Carolyn Corson, of Leeton; and Larry Corson, of Leeton; grandchildren, Denise DesCombes and husband, Sean; DeAnna Anderson and husband, David; Zachary Knight and wife, Shannon; Amber Atchison and husband, Jason; Shawna Markley and husband, Chris; Jake Corson and wife, Jenny; and Clint Corson; great-grandchildren, Noah DesCombes, Nelson DesCombes, Gabby Atchison, Abby Atchison, Joshua Anderson, Michael Knight, Jonah Anderson, Brody Atchison, Landon Corson, Ava Markley, Matthew Knight, Cody Atchison, Audrey Markley and Parker Corson; and sister-in-law, Dixie Corson, of Knob Noster.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Myrl, his father, Ernest, and his brother, Phillip.
