A closing reception for the art exhibit “Kami” is scheduled for 5 p.m. Aug. 6 in the UCM Gallery of Art & Design. The artist, Sarah Nguyen will give an informal gallery talk about the exhibition and her recent experience as an artist in residence at Studio Kura in Itoshima City, Japan. The exhibition opened on July 1 and will close on Aug. 18. Admission is free and the the reception and exhibition is open to the public.

Nguyen, painter and illustrator, and art instructor at the University of Central Missouri, uses oil paints, pastels, pencil and cut paper to help define a complex the Japaenese word, “kami.”  Kami are the spirits or phenomena that are worshipped in the religion of Shinto.

The UCM Gallery of Art & Design is located in the Art Center Building at 217 Clark St. in Warrensburg, across the street from the James C. Kirkpatrick Library. Summer hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, or by appointment. For more information or directions, call 660-543-4498.
