The Warrensburg Tree Board is offering a free event from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at the Trails Regional Library. The event will include a review of the city’s tree inventory and management plan followed by a reading of Shel Silverstein’s “The Giving Tree.” There will be a slice from a large white oak that the city’s Public Works Department had to remove due to damage – as well as temporary tattoos and a variety of tree-related information. Weather permitting, board members and attendees will walk to Shepard Park to see the trees in the park that are scheduled for removal and to see information about the benefits these specific trees have provided to the community. The information will be on large tags attached to each tree. Due to their high hazard potential these and several other trees around the city are slated for removal as part of the city’s current Tree Resource Improvement and Maintenance grant through the Missouri Department of Conservation. For more information about trees or the tree board, visit www.warrensburg-mo.com and search for “tree board.”
