Old Drum Open Mic

July 7, 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

The next Old Drum Open Mic is set for 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 7, in the back room of Tranquility Shop, 128 N. Holden St. in downtown Warrensburg.

The event offers a platform for the presentation of original and creative works, including personal memoirs, short stories, songs, musical performance, poems, scripts and comedy sketches.

While walk-ins can usually be accommodated. A number of area artists are already scheduled, including Scott Umphrey reading from a recent memoir “It Just Ain’t Right!”

Sedalia writer Deb Noland just returned from San Antonio where she was inspired to write three haibuns, collectively titled “Texas Ghosts.” Haibun is a hybrid writing form that includes a short prose passage followed by a punctuating haiku.

Warrensburg’s Gloria Brown will perform a couple of country standards plus a duet performance with guitarist Phil Wagner. Wagner is also scheduled to present a couple of his favorite solo tunes.

Alastair Brines returns to the lineup with original poems.  Lee’s Summit resident Dave Whisker will present the sixth part of his story “The Prophet on the Wall.” And, after working hard to get her new book ready to publish, author Rose Marie Kinder is returning to the open mic.

Old Drum Open Mic is free and open to the public.
