University of Central Missouri President Chuck Ambrose and Mrs. Kris Ambrose will host the President’s Lawn Concert Monday, July 27.

The annual event was originally set to take place at Selmo Park but was moved to the Elliott Student Union Ballroom due to the expected high heat. UCM administrators will begin serving ice cream and cookies at 7 p.m. and the Warrensburg Community Band, under the direction of Russell Coleman, will perform at 7:30 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public. In the event inclement weather, the event will take place in the Elliott Union ballroom across the street from Selmo Park.

This year’s concert will feature the band’s performance of selections by George Gershwin, Leonard Bernstein and John Philip Sousa, as well as other traditional band favorites. A vocal soloist will be featured, and band member Lorraine Miller, a former member of the Wichita Symphony Orchestra, will be featured soloist for the band’s performance of “Concerto for Piccolo” by Antonio Vivaldi.

The Warrensburg Community Band was founded in 1985. Membership is open to individuals above high school age and includes those from a wide variety of occupations and many neighboring communities.
