Lanette L. Whitford, 64, died Thursday, Nov. 9, in Warrensburg, Missouri.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 13, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home with Pastor Mitch Grainger officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to First Baptist Church Building Fund and can be left in care of the funeral home.
She was born on Nov. 4, 1953, in Bonne Terre, Missouri, to Cecil and Edith (Seabaugh) Unger. She graduated from Jackson High School in the class of 1971. She received her Bachelor’s degree from MU and her Master’s degree from UCM, both in Education. She was a school counselor for Ridgeview Elementary, and retired on July 1, 2011.
On Sept. 10, 1977, she united in marriage to Jerald Whitford in Jackson, Missouri. They have been residents of Warrensburg for the past 40 years. Lanette was a member of the First Baptist Church of Warrensburg as well as the Missouri Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed needlepoint, being a mother, and traveling cross-country. She even had an opportunity to take an Alaskan cruise with her family. Lanette is survived by her husband, Jerald Whitford, of the home; son, Jeffrey Whitford, of Germany, and three sisters, Clarinda Unger of Jackson, Missouri, Suzanne Flowers of Russellville, Kentucky, and Cynthia Campbell of Lexington, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Edith Unger.
