Services set for US college student found dead in Russia

(CALIFORNIA, Mo., AP) — Missouri services are set for an American student whose body was found last week near a Siberian village after he vanished from a guesthouse in the middle of the night.

Twenty-five-year-old Colin Madsen of Jefferson City, Missouri, was found dead April 4 near Ashan, a resort village poplar for its mineral springs and proximity to mountains.

Russian investigators have said there were no visible injuries to Madsen, and that his documents and money were untouched.

Madsen was a student at a university in Irkutsk. He came to Arshan on March 26 with friends who intended to hike to a mountain summit.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home in California, Missouri. Burial will be at his family’s farm on a hilltop relatives said he loved.
