(WARRENSBURG, Mo., digitalBURG) — The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International recently partnered with the University of Central Missouri Foundation to create the Duane R. Sterling Scholarship-Rotary Program.
The scholarship is intended to cover the cost for an international student to attend UCM for a year as long as the student is enrolled in 15 credit hours per semester. This includes tuition, fees, room and board, books and other reasonable expenses.
The scholarship honors longtime Warrensburg resident and Rotary Club member Duane Sterling for the time and effort he has put into the university and the Warrensburg community throughout the years, according to a university news release.
“I felt very honored to be recognized in that fashion,” Sterling said. “It is such a blessing to me and my entire family.”
Sterling worked with Lynn Harmon, an old friend and fellow Rotary Club member, to determine the criteria for the scholarship.
Harmon and Sterling said they have been friends for many years and were both excited to bring the Rotary Foundation and UCM Foundation together to make the scholarship possible.
“It has been a privilege to work with Harmon and the rest of the community,” Sterling said.
The scholarship has been awarded to three students so far. More information on the scholarship and how to apply can be found on MOCents.
