Betty K. Morton

Betty Kathryn Morton, 96, of Warrensburg, formerly of Urbana, Hermitage and Kansas City, died Sept. 6 at Country Club Care Center in Warrensburg.

Funeral services were Sept. 13 at Williams Funeral Chapel in Warrensburg, with grandsons Ryan, Bret and Andrew Morton officiating. Interment followed at the Lee’s Summit Historical Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ryan Morton, Bret Morton, Andrew Morton, R. E. Morton III, LaVan Ruggles and Lester Ruggles.

Betty was born Nov. 17, 1921, the youngest of 10 children, at home in Butler, Missouri, to Orville Fredrick Smith and Almina Cassiah (McCollum) Smith. She graduated from high school in Paseo, Kansas. She was united in marriage to Ralph Eugene Morton Jr. on April 4, 1947, in Kansas City. The couple made their home in Kansas City for many years. They moved to Hollister in 1977. In 2000, the couple moved to Urbana. Her interests included music, dancing and time spent with family and friends. She was an avid sports fan, primarily of the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs. Betty also loved following college basketball. In years past, she enjoyed sewing.

Survivors include her son; Ralph Eugene “R. E.” Morton III and wife, Laurel, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; three grandsons, Ryan Walter (Renee) Morton, of Warrensburg; Bret Eugene (Linda) Morton, of Custer, South Dakota; and Andrew Wayne (Elizabeth) Morton, of Charlotte, North Carolina; six great-grandchildren, Emma, Garrett, Rylee, Britton, Claire and William, and number seven on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, and nine siblings.

Because of Betty’s core love of dance, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Dramatic Truth School of Dance in care of the funeral home.
