(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) – The University of Central Missouri’s Gallery of Art and Design will open two annual exhibits on Monday.

The artwork will be in the gallery’s exhibit areas and in the halls of the Art Center, 217 E. Clark St., in Warrensburg.

The 46th annual Citation Awards Exhibition, a juried exhibition open to art majors and minors in the department of art and design, will be displayed in the main and outer galleries.

Some $5,000 in awards and scholarships are distributed to students, which are funded by the department of art and design, the UCM Foundation and the Mid-Missouri Artists group. Individual scholarships and awards are determined by the department’s scholarship committee and this year’s juror, Kansas City-based Web designer, illustrator and UCM alumni, Brian Lynch.

The exhibition opens at 10 a.m. Monday with an awards reception from 3:30-5 p.m. Thursday in the UCM Gallery of Art and Design. The exhibition will run through Friday, April 4, and many of the works will be available for purchase.

Also opening Monday, in the halls of the Art Center, is the annual High School Art Exhibition, a juried exhibit of work by high school art students within a 100-mile radius of the university. More than 1,000 pieces of art from 28 schools were judged for the exhibition.

A reception for the students juried into the exhibition, their families, friends and teachers is planned for 1-3 p.m. Saturday, March 29. The exhibition concludes Friday, April 4, with a senior art student competition and visit day in the department of art and design. More than 300 high school students and their teachers are scheduled to attend the competition and visit day.

The UCM Gallery of Art and Design is open to the public, free of charge, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays, 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursdays, and noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
