(JEFFERSON CITY, Mo., AP) — Republicans and Democrats are joining together as the House is voting to override Gov. Jay Nixon’s vetoes of millions of dollars of spending.
The House plans to vote Wednesday on 51 budget line items that were vetoed by Nixon, amounting to $61 million of spending.
Some of the first items they voted to override would provide $1.5 million for forensic exams of abused children and $4.1 million for a computer program that helps develop emergency plans at public schools.
The items range in value from $50,000 for an epilepsy education program to more than $5 million each for asthma educational services and a head trauma unit operated by the University of Missouri.
Nixon vetoed $276 million from the budget that took effect in July because of state financial concerns.
