Kinsey records top collegiate high jump at Mule Relays

(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) The top-ranked Jennies track team was in action Friday and showed why they are deserving of their No. 1 ranking.

Freshman Erika Kinsey set a new school and building record in the high jump. Her mark of 1.90m (6′ 2.75) is also the best jump across all three divisions in 2015. Kinsey had already automatically qualified for nationals in the event back in December and bettered her mark.  She also finished in fifth place in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.00.

For the second consecutive week, junior Heavin Warner took home first place in the weight throw and the shot put. Warner won the weight throw with a toss of 63′ 11.75″. Junior Haley Heuer finished fourth the event, throwing 51′ 5″. Warner won the shot put with a throw of 44′ 9.5″.

Four Jennies qualified for the finals in the 60m hurdles. Zoe Sharplin won the event in a season-best and NCAA provisional qualifying time 8.63 seconds, the third-best time in D2 this season and second in the MIAA. Madison Smith and Nikki Douglas finished second and third respectively.

The Jennies had a number of top performances in the field events. Senior Jennifer Sartorio jumped a personal-best in the triple jump, finishing second with a mark of 36′ 5.5″. Sophomore Brittany Kallenberger was the winner of the pole vault for the second straight week. She jumped a personal-best 12′ 5.5″ and is now tied for third in the nation in Division-II.

Junior Victoria Jackson finished in third place in the women’s pentathlon. She scored 3364 points and was the individual winner in the shot put, while also coming in second place in the 60m hurdles.

In the sprints, Sharplin came in second place in the 200m dash. She set a new indoor personal-best with a time of 26.35. Smith was the winner of the 400m dash. She crossed the line in an indoor PR of 59.48.

Senior Megan Glamann led the distance group in the mile. She ran a personal-best 5:12.02 to finish fifth in the field of 30. Fellow senior Allie Rexroat took third place with a personal-best time 10:53.10, the seventh-best time in the MIAA this season.

The men ran the first day of the indoor heptathlon. After one day of competition, junior Blake Seitz is the leader of the men’s heptathlon. He’s scored 2897 points, winning the long jump (20′ 11.75″), high jump (6′ 6″; personal best) and shot put (45′ 7.75″) events.

The men will conclude the Mule Relays tomorrow, Jan. 31 with the multi-events finishing up at 9 a.m with the field events to follow.
