(WARRENSBURG, Mo., digitalBURG) – The Warrensburg City Council is scheduled to vote on an ordinance Monday to rezone residential property along South Mitchell Street.
The council meeting is set for 7 p.m. Monday at the Municipal Center, located at 200 S. Holden St. The rezoning would enlarge the allowable density on the property from R-2, single- and two-family residential, to R-3, low-density multifamily residential, according to city documents. The property is located near the corner of South Mitchell and Grover streets on the eastern side of Warrensburg.
The council convened a public hearing on the issue Sept. 14, followed by the first reading of the ordinance.
City staff members recommended approval of the rezoning, according to city documents compiled for Monday’s council meeting. However, the Planning and Zoning Commission recommended denial during its Sept. 8 meeting. This means the council needs a four-fifths majority vote to approve the ordinance.
The commission found that the project would not be suitable for the uses allowed by the current zoning, according to city documents. The commission also found that the project would have a major impact on the neighborhood.
The property owner, Larry Carlyle, wrote that the project would entail multifamily apartments, according to city documents. A total of 55 property owners living within 300 feet of the project were notified about the rezoning.
