(WARRENSBURG, Mo., digitalBURG) – The Johnson County Commission is scheduled to meet Tuesday to discuss the county’s health care premiums for 2015.
The meeting is open to the public and will begin at 10 a.m. at the Johnson County Courthouse, 300 N. Holden St.
Lisa Shore, director of the Human Resources department, will present a recommendation for an increase in premiums for 2015. This will affect all full-time county employees. Specifically, Shore will discuss the amount of money set aside for administrative claims. Shore said the county is in the process of becoming completely self-insured. She declined to comment on the county’s current health care premiums.
County Clerk Diane Thompson said the county has been working toward a self-insurance plan for a while. She said the self-insurance plan would include larger deductibles than their current plan but the coverage would improve. Thompson said currently a $40,000 deductible must be met before re-insurance kicks in.
It was unclear whether a decision would be made Tuesday during the meeting.
“I’m basically telling them (commissioners) what’s to come and giving them a recommendation for it,” Shore said. “I don’t want to discuss numbers at this time.”
Shore is scheduled to discuss payroll approval at 10:15 a.m. Thompson said the payroll for county employees is reviewed and approved every two weeks on Tuesday.
