Mules hit century mark in win over Culver-Stockton

(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) — The Central Missouri Mules shot 60 percent from the field and topped the century mark for the first time this season in a 106-74 win over Culver-Stockton on Monday night at the UCM Multipurpose Building. It’s the first 100-point game for UCM since a 111-72 win over Lincoln last January.

The Mules (9-1) fell behind 2-0, but then rattled off 16 straight points to grab the lead for good. After Culver-Stockton’s (9-2) initial bucket the Mules went on a 26-4 run to grab a 20-point lead with 9:59 to play in the half. A 12-2 run by the Wildcats closed the gap to 28-16 with 6:58 left in the opening period.

Central Missouri was able to push the lead back to 16, but couldn’t pull away any further. Kyle Wolf‘s layup with six seconds left in the half gave UCM a 46-32 lead at the intermission.

The Mules stretched the lead to 23 out of the break, opening the second half on a 16-7 spurt. The Wildcats kept fighting back, however. A three-point play from James Johnson cut the lead to 17 only to see UCM hit back-to-back threes to push the lead right back to 23.

CSC got to within 16 at the 8:27 mark at 82-66, but could get no closer. Mario Gulley’s three-pointer cut the Mule lead to 87-71 with 6:02 to play, but the Mules ended the game on a 19-3 run to claim the 32-point win.

Dillon Deck led UCM with a game-high 21 points on 8 of 11 shooting. Ryan Donald added 13 points and seven rebounds, while Daylen Robinson and Jordan Epps each finished with 12 points. Robinson added six assists and Epps had five. Charles Hammork, in his first action of the season, finished with 10 points on 5 of 6 shooting, four rebounds and a pair of assists.

The Mules were 42 of 70 from the floor and made 8 of 20 three-point attempts for 40 percent. UCM was 14 of 22 at the foul line for 63 percent. Central Missouri out-rebounded the Wildcats 44-29 and held a 42-26 advantage in points in the paint.

Johnson led Culver-Stockton with 20 points. Gulley had 16, while Jalen Jarrett and Johnnie Mills finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

CSC was 27 of 66 from the field for 40 percent, but made just 5 of 27 from beyond the arc for 18 percent. They were 15 of 23 at the charity stripe for 65 percent.

The Mules return to MIAA play with a road trip through Oklahoma beginning on Thursday. UCM will play in Edmond against Central Oklahoma. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Hamilton Field House.
