(WARRENSBURG, Mo., digitalBURG) – Lotspeich Automotive staff cleared its showroom March 27 for Warrensburg Main Street’s biggest fundraiser – the Piccadilly Gala.
Tables covered in white cloth were set up with flower arrangements donated by local flower shop Awesome Blossoms. Boots were used in place of traditional vases, playing off the Gala’s theme: “Boots, Class and a Little Sass.”
Main Street Director Julie Turnipseed said organizers sold approximately 265 tickets, $35 per person, selling out the event for the first time in four years.
Lotspeich was able to accommodate the event’s sizeable turnout.
“We needed more space, (Lotspeich) was approached, and was willing to donate,” Turnipseed said. “It’s excellent.”
Sharply dressed local volunteers escorted ticket-holders to their seats and took their drink orders. Large speakers welcomed guests with lively country music.
One of the first to arrive, Brenda Mahnken, of Holden, Missouri, waited at table 30 for her two sisters to join her. Mahnken attended the past two gala’s with them.
Mahnken perused the auction program while she waited.
“Oh, I see a diamond necklace,” she said. “We’ll just go with that.”
She recognized her server, a childhood friend and neighbor, a fitting representation of the tight-knit community that make the Gala possible.
The second sister to arrive, Becky Silvers, of Warrensburg, sat across from Mahnken and ordered a bottle of sweet white wine.
Bobbi Brooks, of Warrensburg, was the last sister to arrive. Once seated, they clinked their glasses to toast their third Gala together.
“It’s a fun, girl’s night out,” Brooks said. “Everyone hopes to win something.”
Dinner was served at 6 p.m., and entrees were provided by Old Drum Coffee House & Bakery, Fitter’s, Rib-Crib, Country Kitchen and Bi-Lo Country Mart.
The live auction began at 7 p.m. and the ladies bid on items donated by local businesses.
Turnipseed said they do not yet know the total amount raised. Main Street’s goal for this year is $30,000. The money is used to fund the nonprofit organization’s local events and projects in downtown Warrensburg.
