Rand Paul raising money for Show-Me Institute

(JEFFERSON CITY, Mo., AP) — U.S. Sen. Rand Paul is coming to Missouri to raise money — not for himself, but for a free-market think tank.

The Republican senator from Kentucky has been weighing a presidential bid in 2016 while campaigning this year for other Republican candidates across the country.

Paul is to be in St. Louis on Thursday for a fundraiser for the Show-Me Institute. The organization is offering a private “round-table” conversation with Paul for a $5,000 donation and is hosting a reception for donors of at least $250. The institute says it expects about 60 people for the reception.

The Show-Me Institute was co-founded by Rex Sinquefield, a retired investment executive who is Missouri’s most prolific political donor.

The institute reported donations of more than $1.6 million last year.
