Walt was born Oct. 17, 1953, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Billy Donald Miller and Cora Mae (Bean) Miller. He attended high school in North Kansas City. He moved to the Chilhowee area in 1985. Walt was united in marriage to Sue Swope on Oct. 17, 2009, in Chilhowee. He had worked as a cement finisher and later as a union electrician for Capital Electric. He had been a volunteer fireman and city council member for several years. He loved to hunt deer and he would sit in his deer stand all day watching birds, animals and nature. He and Sue loved to ride his Harley motorcycle. He was a member of Southern Cruisers Riding Club in Clinton.

Survivors include his wife, Sue; two daughters, Jennifer Gingerich and husband, Menno, of Warrensburg, Missouri; and Amanda Miller, of Lyndon Station, Wisconsin; son, Billy Miller, of Gillette, Wyoming; two stepdaughters, Sherry Swope, of Warrensburg, and Kerri Shannon and husband, Kent, of Centerview, Missouri; two sisters, Shirley Johnson and husband, James, of Chilhowee; and Mary Woods and husband, Robert, of Knob Noster, Missouri; grandchildren, Elizabeth Selig, Bella Shannon, Leslea Shannon, Jett and Reese Gingerich, Landon Taylor and Isaiah Dodd and Tim Russell and Buddy Shannon. He was preceded in death by both parents and his brother, Bill Miller.

Funeral services were Sunday, Nov. 8, at Chilhowee Baptist Church with the Rev. Fred Clothier of Enon Baptist Church officiating. Pallbearers were his nephews. Honorary pallbearers were Wally Dzula, Randy Burford and John Furrey. Interment followed at Carpenter Cemetery, west of Chilhowee.
