(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) – Warrensburg R-6 Board of Education member Lisa Dyer recently resigned and the district is now searching for a replacement.
The board accepted Dyer’s resignation at its Dec. 4 meeting, and the board wants to have a new board member selected prior to its Jan. 26, 2016, meeting, according to a news release. When a vacancy occurs, the remaining members will appoint someone to fill the vacancy by majority vote, according to district policy.
The appointee will serve on the board until the end of Dyer’s term, which is April 2017, according to the news release.
The district is accepting letters of interest for the position. The board will meet in mid-January at the district’s Central Office at 201 S. Holden St. to consider applicants.
“If you are interested in serving our school district as a board member to complete Mrs. Dyer’s term, we want to hear from you,” said Morris Collins, current school board vice president, in a written statement.
Collins said Dyer’s vacancy is different than the two school board positions that will be filled in the April 2016 election. He said people who are interested in serving a three-year term for one of the two school board positions up for election in April can file for candidacy in the district office through Jan. 19, 2016.
Those interested in filling the vacancy can submit a letter of interest to the board secretary, Susan Garrow, at the Board of Education Administrative Offices, 201 S. Holden St., P. O. Box 638, Warrensburg, Missouri, through Jan. 6, 2016.
The school board is the policy-making body for the Warrensburg R-6 School District.
Members of the Board of Education must be citizens of the United States and resident taxpayers of the district. They also must have resided in the state for one year preceding their election and must be at least 24 years of age. Members are elected to a three-year term and serve without compensation.
