“Star Trek Into Darkness”

By JOSHUA LEONARD (digitalBURG) – “Star Trek Into Darkness” was by far the best “Star Trek” film ever made, and I absolutely cannot wait to go watch it again. This is a must-see movie.

“Star Trek Into Darkness” makes for a darker, more evil feel as Benedict Cumberbatch takes off his “Sherlock” hat and puts on his villain hat. As a kid I would always root for the good guy, but as an adult, I know that it takes just a little more dedication and hard work to play the villain.

Let me tell you, Cumberbatch nailed it. Yes, the acting was superb from Chris Pine (James Kirk), Zachary Quinto (Spock) and the rest of the U.S.S Enterprise crew, but Cumberbatch really shined.

To add to the awesome acting, the film’s story was just amazing. I really do not want to spoil anything for anyone, so I will not, but I will say that the movie takes you on an emotional ride. You will laugh, feel sad, get angry, cry, and feel a sense of redemption throughout the entire film.

The camera work was very Abrams-style, as director J.J. Abrams yet again brings in his lens flares, Dutch angles and shaky camera scenes that we all fell in love with in the 2009 “Star Trek” film. The visual effects were just as brilliant as ever, and watching the film in IMAX 3D just blew me away.

“Star Trek Into Darkness” is my favorite movie of the year thus far. I would call the movie a near perfect film. I recommend, if you can, going to watch the film in IMAX 3D. In the meantime, I am going to sign off here and go watch “Star Trek” again!
